REMOVE THE DOOR PANEL: Start by removing any screws in the door panel. Usually these can be found in the lock release area, the door handle area, and the armrest area. Some screws are hidden by plastic covers.

  • 2

If you have a manual crank window, pull hard until it pops off. On some older vehicles the cranks are held on with a small allen head screw. If you have a door lock knob you might need to take that off, they usually are threaded and unscrew.

  • 3

On the 95 Cherokee in particular you’ll need to pull the door handle area out and to the right just a little bit.

  • 4

Check for aftermarket speakers which may need to be unscrewed and removed before you can get the panel off.

  • 5

Use the door panel removal tool or a flat blade screwdriver to remove the “Christmas tree” fasteners from the back of the door panel.

  • 6

Grab the door panel firmly and lift up and away from the vehicle.

  • 7

Slide the door lock mechanism through the panel.

  • 8

If the door panel still has anything attached to it like electrical connectors or door rods, remove those. Push the tabs and pull off the electrical connectors and or unclip the plastic clips and slide off the door rods.

Hey, guys. It's Matt with bleepingjeep.com. And today, we're going to be doing a quick DIY and Drive tutorial with Pull-A-Part Used Auto Parts. Let's get started.

And so it looks like we need a new mirror. I'm going to be finding a new mirror so you can use this video to either pull a mirror, but I'm also going to show you how to upgrade this older Cherokee mirror to the newer style. I think it could use a little bit of clean-up, but this one ought to do. It's a '97 Plus and it will fit on that '95 Cherokee. Let's take it off. OK, first things first. We want to remove the door panel so that we can get access to the back side of the mirror. Now the door doesn't want to stay open, so let's take a hammer. We'll prop it in there and that will keep the door open for us. Now I see right away one, two, three, four screws that we need to take care of first. So let me get those out of the way, and then we can pull this sucker off.

OK. I've gotten all the screws out. Now when you're taking apart something like this, don't tear it apart. Somebody else might want it. So next thing we're going to do is we're going to pry--there's some little plastic clips all the way around the edge--we're going to pry on them. If you don't have a pry bar, you could use a screwdriver or something like that. [POPPING] There's going to be some electrical connections in here so don't pull it too far. But we're going to go up and to the right. There we go. You don't actually have to remove that any further, but let's be nice and get it out of the way. So there's these little plastic clips. You just push those to the side, and then the metal comes out of that. That locks and unlocks the door. [POP] And now we've just got some electrical connectors. You push in and pull out. There we go. We can set that aside.

OK. This is what we're after. There's a screw right here. Let's go ahead and take that out. Go ahead and keep these things. You might find those handy when you're installing your new mirror. I also want to take apart this electrical connector, so I'll pull that off. And then I'll just pull this tab up and pry it out if it will cooperate. There we go. OK. Let's see what else is holding this on. Take that off. And there are three torques bolts. So it looks like that's a T-38 torques bit. I like to carry these sockets so that I don't have to sit there and mess with those little L-shaped torques. So I'm just going to take these off, and that will be it. OK. Now we're just going to feed that through. Let's go over to the other side. And on this side, we're just going to pry this rubber piece back. This is what keeps the water out of there.

And we've got your mirror. So now all we have to do is take your old mirror off. It's the same process, and then put the new one in its place. Now I've got a new mirror. I can lean on this one all I want to, and I won't fall over. Thank you for watching, guys. I appreciate it. We'll see you in the next video.
